The Importance of Order
A little less than a year ago, I left the premises where I had been in practice since 1991. In the prevailing 25 years, I had accumulated much, journals, books, nick nacks and other things which really cluttered the place up. Now I had always believed that I needed all these things and that these things in their way defined me. I can say that is certainly not the case. In my new place there is order there is tidiness and the most important thing, there is no clutter at all.
The interesting thing about this is that I really began to feel better in myself with the clutter gone. I felt that I had more energy and certainly more focus. I realised that order helped my mental health. This is now something I share with my clients, that a good way to take back control over their emotional and psychological state is to take control over the space around them. Decluttering is therapeutic and gives a person a sense of control over things which very few other things can. Remember, we control very little in the world in reality, however the thing we have control over is how we respond to the outside world. So bring order to your life and see how much better you feel for it.
