Before you consult a therapist it is always good to know more about him/her. On this page, I hope to give you a better idea of who I am and what I am about. If you would rather just check out my qualifications, please click HERE
I have been a practising hypnotherapist since 1989 and a practising psychotherapist since 1995. Despite the many accreditations I hold, I believe that accreditation with the UK Council for Psychotherapy is the gold standard for therapists. The training programmes they accredit are a minimum of 4 years in length at Masters Degree Level. I have completed two of these programmes, in 1995 with the Centre Training School of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and in 2007 with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. I have been accredited by the UKCP since 1996. I have also completed a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling which makes me eligible for registration with UKCP as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor.
These qualifications are in addition to my hypnotherapy diplomas which I received in 1989 (American College of Clinical Hypnosis), 1994 (London College of Clinical Hypnosis) and 2003 from the Hypnotism Training Institute of Los Angeles. Additionally I hold a US Nationally Accredited Diploma in Hypnotherapy from the Hypnosis Motivation Institute (2010) and was the co-creator of the NCFE Accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (2002).
As far as my accreditations are concerned, In addition to UKCP, I am an accredited psychotherapist with the European Association for Psychotherapy, European Association for Hypno-Psychotherapy, and World Council for Psychotherapy, and a CNHC and NSHPM Registered Hypnotherapist. Additionally, I am a UKASFP Accredited Solution Focused Practitioner and a UKCP Registered Clinical Supervisor. I am also a trained EMDR(Eye Movement De-Sensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy)Therapist.
In 2012, I became an Advisor on Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy to the Institute for Complementary and Natural Medicine. I was also appointed to be the International Officer of the UK Council for Psychotherapy in 2015. Since 1989, I have undertaken over 6000 hours of clinical training in addition to conducting over 29,000 client sessions.
I am recognised by BUPA, PruHealth, and WPA for psychotherapeutic referrals. Additionally, I am the co-founder of the National Society of Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Mindfulness a professional association recognised by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council and the current Principal of the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, the oldest hypnotherapy/psychotherapy training institute in the UK.
My therapeutic approach is non judgemental and integrative which means that I utilise a variety of therapeutic approaches and philosophies in order to assist my clients to achieve their goals. I tend to be solution focused, which means that I look at solutions as opposed to problems in order to help my clients move forward. This is not to say that I do not look at the problems or issues that are causing concern, but rather than to focus on those, I believe that looking at the solutions rather than the problems makes the therapeutic experience more positive for the client. Rest assured, I only use approaches that have been proven to be effective. That proof is demonstrated in clinical and academic journals as well as through anecdotal evidence of over 27 years of clinical practice.
