Psychotherapy Manchester: Since 1994, Shaun Brookhouse has provided evidenced based, Solution Focused Brief Psychotherapy incorporating hypnotherapy in Manchester, specifically in Whalley Range and Chorlton cum Hardy, South Manchester.
Psychotherapy consists of many different theoretical and clinical approaches for assisting people deal with emotional and some psychological disorders. Psychotherapy can assist the client understand what helps them feel emotions such as anxiety or even positive emotions, and can assist the client in grasping their strengths and weaknesses. Once these feelings and ways of thinking are identified, clients can often find that they become more skilled at coping with a myriad of different life situations.
Psychotherapy is commonly used for emotional and psychological issues which have taken time to manifest themselves. The therapy relies on the relationship between the client and the therapist. The length of time that the therapy takes varies from person to person. The approach Shaun uses tends to be an integrative approach which utilises the therapeutic properties of hypnosis with solution focused approaches which can help the client to achieve results in a way which is best for the client. Generally speaking, Shaun sees people once weekly over a period of weeks and sessions are generally around 50-60 minutes.
What happens during psychotherapy? Every session is different because every client is different, as are their problems. Shaun will encourage you to talk and explore, in a structured way, your feelings and experiences. Depending on their training and modality, your therapist may also suggest particular techniques as part of that exploration – for example, using art, imaging, dream or movement work. Whatever the technique or clinical approach, psychotherapy is not a magical cure, it is a process to help you find the capacity for improvement within yourself.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy? Different people use the words counselling and psychotherapy in different ways, so there is no commonly agreed definition. There is a general understanding that a psychotherapist can work with a wider range of clients or patients and can offer more in-depth work where appropriate.
The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) believes the difference lies in the length and depth of training involved and in the quality of the relationship between the client and their therapist. UKCP-registered psychotherapists are trained to Masters level.
It should be noted that Shaun is both an accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor and will utilise all of his skills, training and expertise in order to assist you to reach your intended therapeutic goals.
