Hypnotherapy and the Olympics and Paralympics
You would have to have been living under a rock, as my grandmother would say, to have not noticed that this summer has been a most excellent season for Team GB and ParaTeam GB. The Olympics and Paralympics in Rio has shown just what investment in sport can do for our athletes. Perhaps, even more than the actual sporting achievements, what has truly been evident is the stories as to how these athletes got to where they are today.
This is something that has actually become an influence on my own practice. Throughout the summer, new clients have presented wanting to use hypnosis and hypnotherapy to enhance their sporting performance, so they could be like their Olympic heroes.
Obviously, hypnotherapy cannot make you a world class athlete on its own. There is much training and skill which are required to reach the ranks of elite athletes. However, hypnotherapy can be used as an aid to training, and as a method of training that most important muscle that all athletes need, the brain. Using the successes of the summer as a means of modelling and using hypnosis as the vehicle for this modelling to be incorporated in an athlete’s thoughts and actions can be a very potent combination for success.
