Hypnotherapy and Regression Is It For Me
One of the approaches which is almost synonymous with hypnotherapy is regression. Now, many people, when they think of regression think of past life regression. Yes, there are practitioners, I am not amongst them, who utilise past life regression in order to assist clients make changes in their current life.
However, past life regression is not the regression I refer to in this piece. Hypnotic regression is using hypnosis to get the client to look back to the potential root cause of their issue and once found work on to rationalise it and move forward. Regression, traces its roots back to Sigmund Freud, the father of Psychoanalysis. He was first a hypnotist and utilised trance to induce a state where clients could observe issues in their life that they had previously experienced as if it were now.
Hypnotic regression is not an exact science by any means. Indeed, it is essential that the therapist does not inadvertently lead a client to conclusions based on their own beliefs. Rather regression is a process where the client will do their own exploration and come up with their own conclusions on how life’s past experiences has helped to shape the person that they have become now. It is a powerful tool, but it is not for everyone.
