Hypnosis and Politics
Perhaps more than at any time in history, people from outside of the United States seem to be more and more aware of the minutiae of American politics. The latest in this American soap opera is the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. There has been now two allegations of sexual impropriety that have come to light and needless to say this is causing the usual political tribalism known throughout the world. So, I hear you asking, what does not have to do with hypnosis? Well, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro suggested that Christine Blasey Ford (the first accuser) may have been hypnotised by her therapist on the Fox programme Hannity last Thursday evening.
This is one of those hot button issues for me, where a person who is unqualified to comment on therapeutic process makes an allegation about hypnosis that they are ill educated to make in order to discredit something that they do not like. Hypnosis CANNOT create memories in clients, end of. It is an insult to a professional who has spent years being trained to offer therapeutic services, in that the comments made by Pirro could be seen to imply a conspiracy. It is beneath the political debate to undermine people by saying that what they are saying are hypnotically induced fabrications.
