Farewell To The Old
This is the sentiment of a song which will be sung in the four corners of the world tonight. The song of course is the Robert Burns poem Auld Lang Syne. The song is about saying farewell to the old and bringing in the new. This of course is the idea of New Year’s Eve an ending which leads swiftly to a beginning.
So often this is the message needed to be conveyed in therapy. People will come to therapy to end an old way of being and their therapy can be a way for the new to be brought out to the fore. We all have things in our lives from our past which does not serve us well. This day is the ideal time to make a commitment to leave these things in 2017 and move into 2018 with a desire to be the people we would like to be.
With all of the animosities of 2017, this is a great message to take away. We as a society need to be able to leave behind our old negativities and instead embrace the hope that a new year brings us. Whilst things are not perfect, we have the ability to make it what we want it to be if we are just able to leave the past behind and embrace the future.
