Chrometophobia or Chrematophobia- Fear of money
Chrometophobia or Chrematophobia is an intense and constant fear of money. The word Chrematophobia comes from the Greek word chrimata which means money and phobos as fear. With money being a continual source of pre-occupation for many people (either keeping it or acquiring it). There will be a part of society who will find the whole concept of money to cause great distress and a source of great fear and anxiety.
People who find themselves the victim of chrometophobia find that they are completely helpless and debilitating as money is pretty much required for everything that we need as human beings on a practical level (food, clothing, homes, etc). The most severe sufferers may well find themselves living rough on the streets malnourished and in desperate health.
Chrometophobia is not simply related to the physical handling of money but also about acquiring money and its value. This will mean that these people will be unable to manage budgets for even the most important of purposes.
This is a very complicated issue as sufferers may find it difficult to get the help that they need as very often the help they need requires funds to get help. So for sufferers this can often be a catch 22 which leads to a sense of loss and despair. If a person can get assistance, behavioural psychotherapy can be a very effective form of treatment.
