Adversity and Resilience
It is a fact of life that there are things that come into our existence which are sent to try us. We try so hard, often in vein, to fix things outside of our control and not deal with the things which are in my control. It reminds me of the prayer of St Francis “Lord grant me the serenity to know that which I can and that which I cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference”
A commodity which we must all aspire to have is resilience, which simply put is the ability to bounce back from adversity. So often when things get on top of people they do not think that they have the strength to get through. More often than not they are proven wrong and they get though, albeit not unscathed.
Therapy can prove a very effective way in assisting to build up your resiliency so that bouncing back no longer seems so difficult. We spend so much wasted energy in worry and inappropriate action that we exhaust ourselves which makes bouncing back more complicated. Therapy can help teach effective strategies which will allow for a person to enhance their resilience without over taxing themselves.
