Time management

Time management

Time is a matter of perception. This may seem odd at first, but just think of how time flies when you are having fun, or conversely drags when you aren’t! Also it is well known that time is distorted in hypnosis. In Trevor Silvester’s book “Wordweaving” he suggests that other occasions of time distortion show a trance like state where other hypnotic phenomena can be utilised. (eg post hypnotic suggestion).

So, it seems logical that for good time management  we can utilise the ability to distort time for our benefit!

But of course, it isn’t as simple as that, and specific steps can help.

One model is as follows:

SELECT

¯

EXCLUDE

¯

PERFORM

Selcting the task with the highest priority, excluding all others, and putting all one’s effort into performing that task. The pattern is then repeated.

Here is a checklist for good time management:

  • Plan each day thoroughly
  • Mix your tasks to avoid boredom and promote energy
  • Allow a good mix of work and breaks
  • Build in flexibility to allow for the unexpected
  • Always be on time
  • Focus on one task at a time
  • Delegate where possible
  • Anticipate and adapt to change
  • Give priority to important tasks
  • Set clear, achievable goals
  • Look after yourself
  • Reward yourself
  • Be honest with yourself
  • Touch each piece of paper only once
  • Avoid negativity
  • Take time to exercise
  • Don’t procrastinate
  • Finish one thing before moving on to another
  • Learn to switch off

Many people who claim to be bad at time management do not use the time they have efficiently.
