SKYPE Hypnotherapy and IBS Treatment
Research out of the University of Manchester has shown that using an online platform like SKYPE is effective in the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). This is in alignment with recent research showing the efficacy of online therapy. The current research thinking is that online therapy can be as effective as face to face therapy in a therapist’s office.
Online therapy has become more and more popular over the past several years thanks to SKYPE, FaceTime and Zoom. Online therapy is not suitable for all interventions. Indeed, there are times where using hypnosis via an online platform is certainly not the best way to go. For myself, I do a great deal of my clinical supervision via online platforms.
Now, for my usual caveat, doing online therapy requires training in order to understand the nuance of working remotely. Now I know that there are people who will say “Oh great, I have to take another course, I should be able to do this with the training I already have” Well, in order to be an ethical practitioner I would disagree. There are things that one must consider when doing online therapy which you do not have to consider doing face to face.
