Stick To What You Are Qualified To Write About in Hypnotherapy
I have noticed that there are many hypnotherapists who have taken to writing blogs for their own websites as well as the websites of other organisations. This, of course, is a very good marketing strategy and can give the appearance of expertise. However, like in clinical practice, it is essential to write about things you are qualified to write about and not to offer opinions in areas that fall outside of your clinical and ethical competence.
I decided to do a little research on this today and came across 30 articles from a variety of sources. In 27% of them, the author was not qualified to write about the subject that he or she was writing about. Sometimes, people think that if you add the word hypnotherapy or hypnotherapist to an issue that it all of a sudden means that you can give an opinion. Now, of course, people are entitled to their opinions, but when you are writing as a professional, your opinions carry a lot more weight. That is a responsibility not to be taken lightly. As in your clinical practice, write about things you are qualified to hold an opinion on it is good practice and ethically the only viable option to take.
