Hypnotherapy and Tokophobia

Hypnotherapy and Tokophobia

Pregnancy is one of life’s wonders and joys. The bringing forth of new life is truly awe inspiring. However, not all people rejoice at the the idea of pregnancy. Tokophobia is an extreme fear of pregnancy and it is on the rise.

Again, the rise seems to be related to social media. Websites like Mumsnet have fora where mothers discuss their experiences with pregnancy. It will come as no surprise that many of these experiences focus on the difficulties associated with giving birth. Now, of course, there can be challenges with pregnancy. If a person is naturally concerned about it, these stories will cause a great deal of fear and concern.

Hypnotherapy is a way to assist women to overcome this fear. Like all phobias, the root of Tokophobia comes from a reasonable place. However, this is blown out of reasonability causing the phobia. Hypnotherapy can be used to assist the client to rationalise her fear and recognise a better way forward. Also, hypnotherapy can be used to explore the root cause of the fear. In conjunction with psychotherapy a client can then keep what is useful and ridding themselves of that which serves no useful purpose.
