Tempora mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis
Today’s topic is about the times changing and we must change with them. Things that we used to consider appropriate and acceptable simply are not any more. This holds for things like humour. Humour from days gone by are now seen to be insensitive and whilst there are people who don’t like that fact it is a fact and it is logical for us as we are constantly evolving therefore so should everything about us.
The thing that I believe to be the most important change is child rearing. Yes, there are some things about modern parenting which makes me roll my eyes. (Especially as I have no children) But one thing that is a practice which MUST end is that of corporal punishment. I know in my youth it was an acceptable way of discipline. However, a universal truth is that violence begets violence. It accomplishes nothing, certainly not respect and discipline (which is the argument made by those who want things to remain as before) All it accomplishes is fear and anger which again has no place in child development. Surely, adults have the cognitive and linguistic skills to raise children without every raising their hand.
