Hypnosis and Chess
Well I suppose it was only a matter of time before hypnosis and chess would be used in the same sentence. Yes both have similar characteristics of concentration, but really that is as far as it goes. However, in a recent article in the Spectator. It cites several grand masters and champions who have either accused opponents of hypnotising them or they were accused of doing the hypnosis.
Again this can be taken as a silly notion, but as we have seen in the media in the last week, stories that appear silly and unfounded seem to be taking on a life of their own. This is disturbing, because it appears that media outlets are far more interested in half truths and sensationalism rather than researching and getting their articles fact checked before they publish.
Now of course, this article about hypnosis and chess is hardly a life changing one and I doubt very much that people will be making decisions about hypnosis based on it. However, in this world of half truths and innuendo it is our responsibility to read and research before making our minds up as to what is true and what is not. We need to be an informed society or we become an ignorant one.
