Happy Mental Health Awareness Week
This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a great effort in order to get people thinking about mental health issues. This year’s focus is on relationships. One doesn’t often think abut relationships when it comes to mental health. But of course, a person’s mental health can have a positive and of course a negative impact on an individual’s mental health.
In some cases, a relationship can be something of a support for people in mental distress, in other cases it can feel like a prison that one cannot seem to get out of. When looking at relationships, it is important to realise that there are three entities at work, the individuals and the relationship itself. These three components may well need different interventions when it comes to mental health.
It is essential that when seeking out relationship therapy, that the person is trained in order to work in this speciality. Relationship therapy requires a specific kind of therapist and it is important to be aware of this before undertaking therapy itself.
When engaged in properly, the relationship can be worked on most successfully and with a healthy relationship it can only be a good thing for the individual’s mental health within it.
