Necrophobia- Fear of death or dead things

Necrophobia- Fear of death or dead things

I can be argued that all phobia and fear can be broken down into a fear of death or dying. The thought that something may cause us to meet our end is a common theme in most if not all the phobias and fears I have discussed in this blog. However, there is a specific phobia related to death and dead things. This fear is known as Necrophobia which is the fear of death or dead things. Necrophobia is an intense and pathological fear of corpses, death or dead things. The word Necrophobia comes from the Greek word Necro (meaning death or dead) and phobia which is the Greek word for fear.

It is arguable that we all suffer from this phobia in one form or another, as most of us are uncomfortable around death, be that our own or someone else’s. However, this fear is intensified in that the sufferer will have an unhealthy preoccupation with death or dead things. Perhaps caused by an early trauma where they might have witnessed death or perhaps where they were exposed to death in a scary film in childhood.

In any event, the best way to treat this with hypno-psychotherapy is to use hypnosis in order to desensitise the client to death. This is not to say the client is taught to love the idea of death, but rather to accept it and understand that this is not something to obsessively fear.
