Medomalacuphobia- Fear of losing an erection
For some men, the way they identify themselves is via their sexual prowess. The idea of being a man is interpreted as their ability to be able to please their lover and to maintain a full erection. With the way things are in the world, pressures relating to work, and the economy can be a distraction regarding sexual performance. Men who are overly concerned about losing their erection is known as Medomalacuphobia.
In most men’s lives there is at least one time when he cannot maintain his erection during sexual intercourse. The reasons for this could be related to the stresses I mentioned in the early part of this post. Additionally, alcohol, negative self talk and general anxiety can also have a negative impact on sexual performance. These are generally a one off situation, however for sufferers of Medomalacuphobia do not see this scenario is a one off related to credible reasons, but rather they question their sexual ability eventually becoming so concerned about not losing their erection, that they inevitably do. This of course can then lead to a full blown sexual dysfunction.
Hypno-Psychotherapy can help with this by helping the sufferer to cease looking at sexual relations as being something to be graded and assessed to being a genuine expression of affection towards their partner.
