Climacophobia- Fear of stairs, climbing, or of falling downstairs
Climacophobia is the fear of all things to do with the stairs, including climbing and falling down
Climacophobia has a variety of potential causes. One potential cause may be a previous negative experience regarding stairs. For example one may have fallen down a set of stairs or had difficulty completing a climb or may have even had a panic attack while climbing. One may be more prone to developing this kind of phobia if this might have happened. The negative experience did not have to happen to the sufferer directly, but may have been witnessed by the sufferer either in reality or in film or television.
The symptoms of Climacophobia resemble those associated with vertigo. Examples of which are dizziness when looking down the stairs are usually manifested by the sufferer.
Climacophobia responds well to hypno-psychotherapy as it can help the sufferer to realign their thoughts to a more appropriate and helpful mindset rather than the negative one associated with this potentially debilitating disorder. Additional treatment options include relaxation techniques which can help clients control the fear despite its potential severity. This is an issue a person needn’t suffer with there is a wealth of therapeutic options to move things along.
